The SOPHISTICATED Ladies Vocal Trio

Saturday February 21 at 8pm

Jazz evolution from the swinging 30s to the present - full of soul, and harmony

    • The ladies breath life into the Jazz standards we all love and follow the evolution of jazz from the swinging 30s to the present full of soul, and harmony.
    • The trio is exceptional in that all three Ladies are multi instrumentalists as well as lead vocalists, allowing for the trio to sound like a sextet with great variety going from the traditional piano , bass and drums behind the vocalist to three part harmonies. Swing Samba and Soul !
    • The Ladies are : PAOLA VERA on piano and vocals. Singer/songwriter/pianist Paola Vera is already being described as a "truly gifted improviser" (Pete Churchill) and a "Jazz chick with hits" (Richard Niles) . She first started singing and playing the piano at the age of 13, later going on to continue her musical education at Trinity College of Music and The Royal Academy of Music after receiving the Elton John Scholarship in London.
    • In 2007 Paola was awarded a Yamaha Jazz Award for outstanding young Jazz musicians in association with Jazzwize magazine. She has since gone on to receive several awards including prizes for best accompanist in the Finsterwalde Pop and Jazz competition Germany, best improvisation and 2nd place in Lithuwania at the International Jazz Vocalist Competition held in Klaipeda.
    • Paola has since then released her first album , all her own material and moved to Bordeaux France where while working on a new album she also plays with the Ladies trio. http://www.paolavera.com
    • RACHAEL MAGIDSON on vocals, percussion and trumpet. "A really good jazz sound has come out of France .... Tim Taylor - Audiophile Audition "...frighteningly hedonistic impact...Magidson is one of those song stylists...that pretty much has her way with you emotionally. You could easily succumb to a state of bewitched, bothered bewilderment" CJ Bond - Jazz Music Review ".... it is almost uncanny how much Magidson captures Holiday's unique delivery." " Constance Tucker - All About Vocals
    • Rachael comes from a family of musicians and after the benefit of musi education in US public schools she quickly began her professional career first as a sidewoman on bass, drums, and back up vocals and then as leader on vocals, trumpet and percussion. She has released three albums as lead vocalist, Stocchi Jazz Band West of the Moon, Rachael Magidson The Clouds Have Passed and Sophisticated Ladies A True Story. While in France Rachael regularly plays festivals as well as intimate clubs and had the pleasure of opening for greats such as Maurice Vander and Eddie Palmieri.
    • LAURE SANCHEZ on upright Bass and vocals Laure is a pearl from the west coast of france. Originally from the Bordeaux region, Laure has benefitted from the rigorous and competitive music education of the conservatory of Bordeaux . Laure has only been playing for two years but has talent and drive and she is quickly becoming an important player in the local scene. In addition to having excellent natural time Laure has a beautiful soulful voice and pours her heart into her music.
